Why camp in Scotland?
Scotland has some of the most dramatic and accessible camping landscapes in Europe, and uniquely generous land access rights. The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 gives everyone the right to be on most land and inland water for recreational purposes, including wild camping — a freedom unavailable anywhere else in Great Britain. From the Cairngorms plateau (the largest area of arctic-alpine habitat in Britain) to the Atlantic-washed beaches of the Outer Hebrides, from the sea lochs of Argyll to the volcanic headlands of the Isle of Skye, Scotland offers camping experiences that simply do not exist in the rest of the UK.
Things to do near Scottish campsites
The North Coast 500 road trip route passes through some of the most spectacular coastline in Britain. Ben Nevis, Cairn Gorm, and the Munros (all peaks over 914m) draw walkers and climbers from around the world. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is one of the most accessible wilderness areas in Europe from Glasgow. The Isle of Skye offers the Fairy Pools, Old Man of Storr, and Quiraing ridge walk. The historic cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are both world-class cultural destinations an easy drive from countryside campsites.
