Norfolk is flat, which means unobstructed wind — coastal and Broads sites can be surprisingly exposed and cool even when the sun is out. Bring windbreaks for comfort at beach-adjacent sites. Mosquitoes and midges are present in abundance near the Broads in summer, especially at dawn and dusk; insect repellent is essential. Road access to the north coast is via the A149 coast road, which can be slow in summer; patience is needed. The county has a good spread of sites from large holiday parks near the coast to quiet farm sites inland. Norfolk is excellent for cycling — the terrain is gentle and many sites are near quiet lanes.

Norfolk is a predominantly agricultural county of around 900,000 people, the 7th largest county by area in England. Norwich, the county city, is a medieval market city with one of the finest Norman cathedrals and an impressive independent food and arts scene. The North Norfolk coast was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1968. The Norfolk Broads were accorded the equivalent status of a National Park in 1989, though they are managed by the Broads Authority rather than Natural England. The county has a very long tradition of family camping holidays and a wide range of sites at all price points.
