Why camp in Yorkshire?

Yorkshire is England's largest county and arguably its most varied. The Yorkshire Dales offer limestone pavements, waterfalls, and stone-walled meadows; the North York Moors provide purple heather moorland and a dramatic coastline from Saltburn to Filey. The Wolds roll gently between them, and the city of York anchors the whole county with 2,000 years of history. For campers, this means an extraordinary range of settings — riverside pitches in Wharfedale, moorland sites above Whitby, or sheltered farm sites tucked beneath the Wolds. Yorkshire is also remarkably affordable compared with the south-west, with fewer crowds outside of bank holidays.

Things to do near Yorkshire campsites

Walking opportunities are world-class: the Yorkshire Three Peaks (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, Ingleborough), the Coast to Coast walk, and the Cleveland Way are all within striking distance of Yorkshire campsites. Whitby, with its ruined abbey, smoky kippers, and Dracula connections, is one of the most atmospheric towns in England. Bolton Abbey, Malham Cove, and Aysgarth Falls are iconic natural landmarks. Harrogate offers spa heritage and the famous Betty's tearoom; Scarborough mixes Victorian grandeur with a working harbour and lively beach. Cycling through the Dales on the Sustrans network is excellent on quieter roads.
