Things to do near Yorkshire campsites
Walking opportunities are world-class: the Yorkshire Three Peaks (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, Ingleborough), the Coast to Coast walk, and the Cleveland Way are all within striking distance of Yorkshire campsites. Whitby, with its ruined abbey, smoky kippers, and Dracula connections, is one of the most atmospheric towns in England. Bolton Abbey, Malham Cove, and Aysgarth Falls are iconic natural landmarks. Harrogate offers spa heritage and the famous Betty's tearoom; Scarborough mixes Victorian grandeur with a working harbour and lively beach. Cycling through the Dales on the Sustrans network is excellent on quieter roads.
Camping tips for Yorkshire
Yorkshire weather is famously unpredictable — bring layers even in July. Moorland sites can be exposed to strong winds; check prevailing conditions before pitching. Many Dales sites are on working farms, so dogs must be kept on leads and noise kept to a minimum. The narrow lanes approaching some Dales and Moors sites are unsuitable for large touring caravans — check width restrictions before travelling. If you're planning to walk the Three Peaks, start early: it's a long day even for experienced walkers. Wild camping is not permitted in the Yorkshire Dales or North York Moors without landowner permission.
