Why camp in Norfolk?
Norfolk is the flattest county in England, and that flatness opens up one of the biggest skies you'll find anywhere in Europe. Its north coast — from Holkham to Cromer — is a string of AONB beaches, dune systems, salt marshes, and seal colonies that feels genuinely wild and remote despite being just two hours from London. The Norfolk Broads, a network of navigable rivers and shallow lakes created by medieval peat digging, are an entirely different face of the county — one best explored by hire boat or canoe. For campers who value tranquillity, birdlife, and enormous sunrises, Norfolk is hard to beat.
Things to do near Norfolk campsites
Holkham National Nature Reserve and its vast beach is probably the finest beach in East Anglia. Wells-next-the-Sea, Burnham Market, and Blakeney are charming north coast towns ideal for crabbing, sailing, and local crab sandwiches. The RSPB reserves at Titchwell Marsh and Cley Marshes are among the best birdwatching sites in Britain. Sandringham House is open to visitors in summer. The Georgian market town of Holt and the arts centre at Snape Maltings (just into Suffolk) are excellent cultural stops. Hiring a day boat on the Broads from Wroxham or Potter Heigham is a quintessential Norfolk experience.
