Snowdon (Y Wyddfa), Wales's highest peak, can be climbed via several routes or by the historic Snowdon Mountain Railway from Llanberis. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is one of the finest coastal walking trails in Britain — 186 miles of cliff path, coves, and bays. Zip World at Penrhyn Quarry offers some of the most dramatic adventure activities in the UK. Cardiff, with its Victorian arcades, the Principality Stadium, and Cardiff Bay waterfront, makes an excellent day trip. The Brecon Beacons are outstanding for mountain biking, dark-sky stargazing (the first area in Wales to be designated an International Dark Sky Reserve), and waterfall walks.

Wales is significantly wetter than most of England, with Snowdonia receiving among the highest rainfall in the UK — plan for rain at any time of year. The A55 expressway along the north coast and the M4 through south Wales are the main arterials; access to mid-Wales and Pembrokeshire involves slower single-carriageway roads. The Welsh language is alive and widely spoken, particularly in north and west Wales — making an effort with Bore da (good morning) and Diolch (thank you) is appreciated. Many farm sites in Wales are small and characterful; arrive in daylight as access lanes can be challenging after dark.
