Norfolk is a predominantly agricultural county of around 900,000 people, the 7th largest county by area in England. Norwich, the county city, is a medieval market city with one of the finest Norman cathedrals and an impressive independent food and arts scene. The North Norfolk coast was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1968. The Norfolk Broads were accorded the equivalent status of a National Park in 1989, though they are managed by the Broads Authority rather than Natural England. The county has a very long tradition of family camping holidays and a wide range of sites at all price points.
Why camp in Norfolk?
Norfolk is the flattest county in England, and that flatness opens up one of the biggest skies you'll find anywhere in Europe. Its north coast — from Holkham to Cromer — is a string of AONB beaches, dune systems, salt marshes, and seal colonies that feels genuinely wild and remote despite being just two hours from London. The Norfolk Broads, a network of navigable rivers and shallow lakes created by medieval peat digging, are an entirely different face of the county — one best explored by hire boat or canoe. For campers who value tranquillity, birdlife, and enormous sunrises, Norfolk is hard to beat.
